12-11 what i hope to accomplish this weekend

12-11 what i hope to accomplish this weekend

this weekend i hope to get to sewing some turned and top-stitched cloth wipes (some will be terry/flannel and some will just be flannel/flannel). i found a nice tutorial here (third set of instructions). i keep thinking that if we’re going to skip out on the disposable diapers, why not give skipping out on disposable wipes a try, too? it may be more of a challenge because they’ll have to be transported dry with some kind of wipe solution, but if i’ll be washing diapers, washing wipes can’t really be any more work.

i also consider this project a bit of a warm up to sewing the crib bedding. i need to get on that, too. like soon. i’m kind of nervous that i’ll go to all the effort of sewing the fitted sheets, only to find out they’re too small. i laid the 2 yards of fabric over our crib mattress, and it looks like it should fit, but i’ll be cutting squares out of the corners and adding elastic … i think i’m just nervous that i’ll end up having done it wrong. at least i know the crib dust ruffle and bumper will be fine and i can always turn the fitted sheets into parts of a quilt. any natural fabric fitted sheet will end up working if i screw up, thank goodness.

We use cloth wipes (we bought them, but they are just a single layer of light flannel serged around the edges, and they totally do the job!)… we just carry a small spray bottle of water and spray that on the wipe (or on his butt if needed). Zeke has super sensitive skin so we didn’t add anything to the water for the first 6 months, but you can add a couple drops of essential oil or something if you want to. But seriously, a spray bottle and dry wipes are a super easy combo!

Good luck on your crafty weekend! Can’t wait to see what you come up with! And just remember with your fitted sheets – measure twice, cut once! 😉
