11-06 don't eat slimey carrots

no, really. i bought a new bag of baby carrots the earlier this week, but when i got them home and opened, i noticed they were slimy. i thought that maybe there had just been too much water in the bag, so i tried to rinse them and dry them with paper towels.

no dice. they’re still slimy.

according to the internets, this means they’ve gone bad (even if the few i did munch on didn’t taste bad) and i shouldn’t eat them. so, those bright orange carrots up there got tossed, but everything else in my lunch (avocado, raspberries, and pb&j) was eaten.

poor carrots. such a bummer.

no that the baby cares. food is all that seems to matter. breakfast, lunch, and dinner all seem to produce a little bit of internal aerobics action … not that i’m complaining. for now.

oh, and lastly, i think my newborn cloth diaper registry is complete (as in, i don’t think i’m going to edit anymore). now, the real task will be convincing the family that this is something worth investing in when there’s tons of other fun stuff on our amazon or target registries or whatever. i know there’ll be some family members who’re going to think we’re crazy for going cloth diapers, but it just makes so much sense. it’s not an inconvenience, in my opinion. babies already require so much more laundry, anyway. why not wash diapers, too?

i’m sure some of what we want we’ll have to purchase on our own, possibly used. but, it feels good to have something accomplished. now to stock up before march!

Ooh, a couple more thoughts about cloth… when doing the Kissaluvs or prefolds, you won’t need as many covers as you need diapers. You will be able to wipe off a cover, let it dry, then reuse it. I think we had 5 NB covers for 24 fitted diapers, but you can do fine with 2 or 3, really.

yeah. i figured some of the covers wouldn’t need washing as often. i suppose it depends on the soak and the mess … so, did you just go fitted and not use any prefolds at all?

We had all those Kissaluvs we borrowed so we didn’t need to use prefolds for a long time, but now we’re using them about half the time. Pretty easy, just not as absorbent.
